The
Aurora Picture Show had a minifundraiser at the
Poison Girl Bar on
Westheimer Sunday, June 7th from 5PM to 9PM. Hosted by Poison Girl
Bar all of the proceeds from the bar goes to the Aurora. This is a
monthly event that Poison Girl Bar hosts each first Sunday of the
month to help raise funds for one non-profit Organization as part of
their "Drink Houston Better". This month it was the

Tired
and relieved, Filmmakers turned in their short films, Sunday, June
7, 2009, marking the end of the filmmaking process in the 48
Hours Film Project-Houston where filmmakers make a film in two days.
According to Producer Laura Schlecht this years competition brought
in a Houston record of 48 teams. The Sunday film drop-off at The
Usual Neighborhood Pub on Allen Street, netted 40 films, most
on time, but some late and not eligible for national and
international competition. However all 40 films will be screened at
the new Studio Movie Grill Town Centre (I-10 at Beltway 8) starting
at 6:30PM Wednesday, June 10th and June 11th, 2009. You can purchase

the 48 Hour
Film Project
is underway here in Houston. A record 48 teams are making their

Festival, Mr. George Ortiz, has
announced that cult icon, Tony Moran, who plays the fictional character "Michael Myers" in the horror film classic film "Halloween"
is scheduled to be the guest host at the 2nd Annual festival coming

The
Houston chapter of the 48 Hour Film Project, under Laura Schlecht, presented
the 48HFP BootCamp Thursday Night, May 28, 2009 at Fitzgerald's. Last year's
Houston winners, Filmmaker/Director Jason
Clemons and Filmmaker/Producer
Michael Darling, were on stage to present
the "in-and-outs" of this annual project. They talked about
their journey to making a short film, the tip and tricks they used in
making an award winning film, and answered questions for those team
members who were there to soak up the excitement and learn the
expectations they will be facing in this fast paced film competition,
coming up next weekend. The competition is scheduled to start Friday,
June 5th and filmmaker will have a mere 48-hours to write, produce and
edit their short films within a specific deadline and using specific
props, lines, characters and film genres. The production team of Sweet
Baby Jesus and Jason Clemons and Michael Darling swept the Houston
branch of the competition with their short film "Rushn".
Thursday night's BootCamp was huge and filled with filmmakers ready
and eager to get started. The race will be on and a good learning
experience will be had by all. Screening of the films is scheduled to
take place June 10th and 11th, at the Studio
Movie Grill Town Centre. Advance tickets

Houston
area Director and Founder of the Gulf Coast Film and Video Film
Festival, Mr. Hal Wixon, has
announced that comedian/Actor John Lovitz is scheduled to be guest host and will be attending
the 2009 festival later this year. The GCFVF is going on its 10th
year. Last year's festival was a record breaking year for attendance
and this year's tickets will sell out pretty fast. Good for Hal!

Tuesday night, May 26, 2009 for their monthly SWAMP Salon. This Month
SWAMP presented Composer Joel Irwin to talk about "Using
Sound and Music in Film/TV". It was
an interactive presentation where Mr. Irwin tested the audiences
recollection of music and sound and its importance to the film or
television show. His hour and a half presentation was filled with
information and interesting insight to the world of music and sound in
film/TV. C-47 Houston was there to support Joel and we took some pictures!

Houston magazine presented San Antonio Director and Filmmaker Pablo Veliz for an informal get together and coffee for our
readers and followers at the Coffee
Groundz coffee house on Bagby St.,
Houston Saturday afternoon May 23, 2009. Driving in from San Antonio,
Mr. Veliz was to meet us at 4PM but was a bit late due to heavy rain
he encountered on his way into Houston. He was also in Houston to
screen his new feature film "The
Boys of Ghost Town" hosted by the Houston chapter of National Association of Latino
Independent Producers or NALIP later Saturday
night starting at 6pm. "The Boys of
Ghost Town" is Pablo's 5th feature
film and one that promises to push Mr. Veliz even further up the
industry ladder. Mr. Veliz was accompanied by several members of his
crew and production company who were there to support his screening
efforts. And, several of C-47 Houston magazines readers and followers
were there to meet and ask questions of this filmmaker. C-47 Houston
magazine will present the interview with Pablo Veliz in our July

Houston producer and winner of a 2008 Daytime Emmy
Awards Ms. Robin Craig reports that "Christina's Court" has again been nominated for an Emmy Award for the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards in the
category of "Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program" for the
remarkable case of a hate crime against a young black man titled, "Bad Night at Woodforest". Cristina's Court is the first
winner of the 2008 Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding

on 104 KRBE
in the 8am time slot Thursday the 21st. and is in an article in Cy-Fair magazine. Next
week he will be in the Houston Chronicle. WOW! This guys is busy and on a roll! Keep up the

voice-over legend, Wayne
Allwine dies at
62 Monday morning, May 18, 2009 in LA., That according to the Los
Angles Times. Mr. Allwine was the voice of Mickey Mouse from 1976 until his death and only the third
person to to voice Mickey. Walt Disney was the first who entrusted it to Jimmy Macdonald in 1947 and Mr. Allwine in
1976. His wife Russi
Taylor is a
voice-over artist and supplied the voice to Minnie Mouse. Both Taylor and Allwine were married.
Allwine was an Emmy Award-winning former Sound Effects editor and
foley artist.

Niesha Esene
reports that she will be on CBS Channel 11's Great Day Houston's Plus Fashion segment on Friday, May 29th at 9AM.
"The
Great American Moon Rock Caper" had a wonderful turnout to their fundraiser
at Fitzgerald's Tuesday night, May 19, 2009 at
8PM. They were raising funds to move this feature film to the
production stage. Shooting this month and next month. Written and Directed by Travis
Ammons this film is
about three intelligent NASA interns who steal millions of dollars of
moon-rocks and try to sell them on Ebay. C-47 Houston magazine was there to support our local

Producer Laura Schlecht was there
to present a collection "Audience Favorites" for the past
three years including Director Jonathan
Simon's 2007
"Street Meat", Director Matthew Miller's
2006 "Scripted", Director Jason Clemon's 2008 "Rushin", Director Dutch Doscher's 2008 "Frieda
Gilroy" and Directors Jack Cornett
and Adam White's 2007 short film, "Morning
Sickness". And, as part of the
screenings, writer, director and
filmmaker Paul Locklear, screened and was
present for the showing of his video work, "BLP TV: A History Lesson" with the Brazosport
Lazer Panthers Theatre Troupe. C-47 Houston magazine was
there to support our filmmakers and BooTown as they presented an array of films for the first
time at this annual Houston Fringe

Hayes and the BooTown staff and volunteers did an amazing job in creating a buzz, having

food, drink, music, poetry and a showing of art and wares Saturday
