Houston filmmakers and director Mr. Richard Boyd has finished up the rough cut of a 10-minute short teaser of a planned full-length feature film titled “Bram Stoker’s: The Vampire Diaries: RENFIELD”.  The Executive Producers, Mr. Philip Nichols and Mr. Bob Willems have announced that they plan to take this film trailer for pre-selling at the American Film Market and enter this short horror film into next year’s 2009 WorldFest Houston International Film and Video Festival.  Working under “Poison Apple Films LLC”, made up of local industry professionals and some new comers who want to create a certain type of movie product – the Indie “B” horror films, this film used 2 Sony PMW-EX1’s operated by Cinematographer Billy McTavish.

Renfield” is about R. N. Renfield, once the slave of Count Dracula, is now an insane vampire stalking a modern day city (Bayou City). He is known as the “Bayou City Slasher”. A serial killer, Renfield is pursued by Detective Paul Cranston, a driven detective who always gets his man. Renfield is also sought by Mina Harker (now a vampire) and her vampire son, Quincy Harker. This film is a thrilling game of cat and mouse in which Renfield reveals his ancient history with the vampire Lord Dracula and fights not only the mortals of Bayou City but the forces of Darkness as well.

This property has been in development since 2005. The teaser went into pre-production in late August 2008 and was shut down in September when Hurricane Ike hit the Houston area.  Production resumed in mid-October and shot locations covered Houston, Friendswood and Galveston.

Casting includes Philip Nichols as “Renfield”, Vance Johnson as “Dr. Seward”, Lee Bentley as “Professor Van Helsing”, Anthony Campise as “Detective Cranston”, Derek M. Holden as “Quincy Harker”, Randel Smith as “Willard Caine”, Shery Rozas as “Mina Harker” and Dana Beck as “Dr. Johnson”.

Mr. Nichols wrote the screenplay for this trailer and his company “Facades FX MakeUp Lab” provided the special make-up and creature effects.

This is the first effort in filmmaking for “Poison Apple Films LLC” however; this film company is currently in development and pre-production on eight horror franchises.

Mr. Nichols and his sister, Mel, were kind enough to send over some productions pictures of "Renfield".  Enjoy!
