Texas filmmaker and
Director Mr. Chris Eska's 2008 Independent Spirit Award winning film,
"August Evening" is now in theaters and showing
throughout Texas. Locally the film will be shown at the Angelika Film Center, here in Houston and
the Cinema Latino in Pasadena starting November
14th, 2008. in Pasadena, TX.
The film
follows an aging undocumented worker named Jaime (played by: Pedro
Castaneda) and his young widowed daughter-in-law, Lupe (played by:
Veronica Loren) as their lives are thrown into upheaval. Lupe is more
of a daughter to Jaime than his own children and the two separated by
life.
Filmed on
location in rural South Texas, "August Evening" is inspired
by naturalistic 1950's world cinema and is set in a world of humming
cicadas, chicken farms, ethereal music, gentle glances and rustling
leaves.
Mr.
Eska (left) calls his film, "A love letter to San Antonio
and my hometown of Gonzales".

"August
Evening" won the "Best Film Award" at the 2007 Los
Angeles Film Festival. The Jury also awarded the "Best Ensemble
Acting Award" to the cast. The film has won the Cassavetes Award
for Best Film at the 2008 Independent Spirit Award. An Independent
Spirit Award nomination went to Mr. Pedro Castaneda for "Best
Actor" This was Mr. Castaneda's debut acting role!
"August
Evening" is opening in theaters across the U.S. this fall.
