About Laura:
Originally from the northeast U.S., Laura
has lived in the Houston area for the past ten or so years. She grew up in a family that
highly valued education, hard work, NPR and PBS, libraries/books,
personal creativity, equal rights for all, writing, art, music,
genealogy and history, health, cooking
and baking, traditions, time at their cabin in the mountains, road
trips and exploring, the home, compassion and kindness toward
others, films, comic relief, and capturing images with a camera, to
name a few core influences which have shaped who Laura is today.
With that background in place, Laura went on to earn a
Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Temple University and a
Master’s degree in Counseling from The Pennsylvania State
University, graduating with highest honors. She has since worked
extensively with children, adolescents, young adults, and families
in various private and academic settings. At present, Laura teaches
part-time at a local college and is in the process of pursuing her
permanent license as a professional counselor in the state of Texas.
Throughout Laura’s college years and
later, she maintained a keen interest in photography and
experimented with the many technical aspects of the medium. With the help of formal
study, self-taught practice, and professional mentorship, she gave
her “eye” an advantage. While
home full-time raising her two children, one who is a professional
actress, Laura opened her own successful in-house photography studio
business focusing on portraiture.
Her portfolio work has been greatly praised and features fine
art style images of many area children. Over the past few years,
Laura has found the time to shoot most of the C47 Houston covers but has
had to scale back significantly on her other photographic endeavors. When she does accept an
assignment, she works out of studio in Conroe, Texas or on-location.
Her motto is simple and was spoken by
Mahatma Gandhi, “You must be
the change you wish to see in the world.”
